Presentation

" Anfass  " is a Belgian-Tunisian project, a real and deliberate attempt of fusion between two cultures as currently only (world) jazz can offer. Two Belgians, two Tunisians. On the one hand, the traditional instruments of oriental music: the ud (short-necked Arabic lute), the darbuka (terracotta drum) and the ney (reed flute); On the other, a classical guitar, a soprano saxophone and a flute. And magic works! In the course of the tracks, it is a fresh wind that blows in   a perpetual back and forth movement  between the two shores of the Mediterranean, from the brilliance of the immutable golds of old Europe to the bright and bluish whiteness of a village facing the sea, from European harmony to Arabic melody and rhythm. Indeed, the ten themes of this record have in common this skilful mixing, operated by talented alchemists, with two different visions of music but each of them nevertheless exhales a particular perfume: if Lettres tunisiennes or Mabrouk borrow more to the graceful Oriental melodies Message d'amour et de lumière  is a ballad of classical form with intense lyricism, full of intimacy which  invites to an inner journey. As for Canto Largo, it is more jazz with beautiful improvisations on guitars and saxophone soprano. This disc, carried by a natural need for exchange and mutual understanding, is a spiritual journey. It must be listened to and respected. After having loved it, you will rank it in the right place,  as another testimony to the diversity of men and their profound humanity.
Performed at the Ennejma Ezzahra Palace in Sidi Bou Saïd, as part of CAMM's music program for four successive nights in November 1999, the project has continued to evolve on the international jazz stages.
